Test your Shopify PO upload flow

Run one Purchase Order order and one card order. Check that the school’s PDF reaches the right order and nothing changes the payment status.

Before the test

Use a store where you can place a non-charged PO order. Shopify does not simulate manual payment methods in gateway test mode. Don’t run a real card charge or upload a school’s actual document for this check.

Manual payment is named “Purchase Order”In Shopify Admin, check Settings → Payments and confirm it is active. Payment instructions explain the next stepTell the buyer when to upload the school-issued PDF. A PO document is not payment. The post-purchase upload is enabled on this planConfirm the extension is visible on the actual Thank You or Order status page you intend to use.

Purchase Order test

Place a small test order and choose the manual Purchase Order method.

The PO order shows the upload requestCheck the buyer view and confirm the document request is clear. A sample PDF is attached to that exact orderIn Admin, open the matching order and download the file. Confirm the PDF opens. The received or reviewed state persistsRefresh the merchant order view and check the status remains correct.

Card order control

Place a separate test order using a card payment method.

The card order has no PO upload prompt or PO recordConfirm the non-PO order did not enter the document queue. Uploading a PDF never marks an order paidPayment and fulfillment still follow your store’s normal review process.
